Hello. I am trying to trace my Irish family roots and have the following names: Bedelia Cullen, Elenor Cullen, and Margaret Dorinda Cullen.
The above were born in Mayo. Bedelia married John Sharkey (born c1795) and Margaret married ? Frewin. I have no parish to go on and would love any information from anyone who has these names in their tree.
John and Bedelia Sharkey had Margaret Dorinda, Cecilia Angelina Gertrude and Mary C Sharkey. The first two girls were born in Ireland and Mary was born in England. Many thanks
I was fooling around on the internet & saw a posting from Thomas Joseph Cullen II in Colorado, son of Jerry Cullen, son of Charm Emmerick. Are you my cousin? Jerry Cullen/Kansas City. BTW, Jerry Pierce Cullen's father was Thomas Cullen; you listed your Mom's father, Claude Ashby. Grandma Charm's maiden name is Brooks.
I'm Thomas Joseph Cullen II in Colorado..son of Jerry Cullen...son of Charm Emick and Claud Ashby of Ireland and England...I hope to find more roots..please let me know.
Hi. I am James Joseph Cullen, III, born in 1924 in Paterson, New Jersey. I hope my information might help anyone digging into the Cullen family.
I am a mechanical engineer with an MBA and retired from the civil service in 1986 after having served as a rocket scientist (no kidding!) for the US Navy. I married Phyllis Mae Johnson of Warwick, Rhode Island, in 1948. We had two children: a son, James Joseph Cullen IV, born in 1950, who was a chemical engineer/geologist/hydrologist; and a daughter, Holly Allethaire Cullen, born in 1955, who is a nurse practitioner and nursing instructor.
My father, James Joseph Cullen, Jr., was born in Suffern, New York, in 1888. He had many jobs during the Great Depression, including driving a milk wagon and working in a tool crib at Curtiss-Wright (not their competitor, Hamilton Standard, as I think has been reported elsewhere) propeller division. In 1921 my father married Mary Timchak of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. They had two children: my sister, Anita Cullen Barrett, and me. My dad died in New Jersey in 1968.
His father, James Joseph Cullen, Sr., was born in 1853 in Co. Mayo, Ireland. He emigrated to Suffern, New York where he was a telegraph operator for the Erie Railroad. He married Catherine Sweenan and they had 11 children, eight girls and three boys. I know the boys were Thomas, James (my dad), and Edward (a machine-gunner in World War I). Of the girls, I remember Tess (Theresa) and Alice and Katherine (or Catherine). James, Sr., died in 1920.
My name is James Joseph Cullen, IV. I'm a civil engineer and geologist from Las Vegas, NV. My father was James Joseph Cullen, III, born in 1924 in Patterson, NJ, married Phyllis Mae Johnson from Warwick, RI. He was a mechanical engineer -- civil service for the U.S. Navy. My paternal grandfather was James J. Cullen, II. I no nothing of his birthplace but believe it to be in New York or New Jersey. He held various jobs through the Great Depression, including driving a milk wagon and working in a tool crib at Hamilton-Standard. He married a Czechoslovakian woman named Maria Timchak. James II and Maria also had a daughter, my aunt, whose name escapes me. She had two children (my cousins) by a husband John Barrett: Patti and John Barrett. Of my Great Grandfather, James Joseph Cullen (the first?) I know little except that he emigrated from Co. Mayo, Ireland to the United States, came from a very large family, and was a telegraph operator for the New York Central Railroad.
My name is Carol Cullen Terry, my father was John Joseph Cullen b 1911 Junction City Kansas, m "Eva" Sivage of Fayetteville AR in Neosha MO Dec 31, 1933; John's father was James Joseph Cullen b 1876 in either NY or Penn m Malinda Lucinda Coffee in Junction City Kansas around 1905, (James had joined the Army as a young man about 15 and was in the 7th Cavalry in Pureto Rico fighting in the Spanish American War and later was at Ft Riley Kansas just outside Junction City); James's father was Edward Cullen from Ireland, either Rosscommon or Mayo County( I think), m Anna Melvin, probably in Ireland, and came to NY about 1872 or 1873. Coming to NY with Edward and his wife and possibly 2 young daughers, were Edward's brother, James Cullen, and his wife Mary McGraff, and Edward's and James's sister, Mary, who later married Martin Doyle of Fayetteville NY. But that is as far as I can get!!
Do you have any information on any of these Cullens or can you recommend a choice of research? Thanks for any help you possibly can give me.
